Running the NYC Marathon has been a dream of mine for seven years.
A dream that didn’t come to fruition until I changed my mindset and shifted my purpose from a personal goal to one greater than myself. I’ve ran eight marathons “for myself” whether that was aiming for a PR or tackling an epic course. When I made the mindset shift, that I wanted to run the NYC Marathon for something greater than myself and support a local cause, I got a call from RallyCap Sports.
When I found out that I could run the NYC Marathon while supporting RallyCap Sports and their mission to bring sports to people with special needs, it was a dream come true! It means even more to me that I’m supporting a cause that impacts the lives of those in my community.
In the book Running with the Mind of Meditation, the author (who is a Tibetan monk) was curious about how running a marathon compares to a meditation practice. The fourth connection he makes between running and meditation is PURPOSE, “Having purpose is essential to mind-body synchronicity, which aligns us with where we are. It is a deep source of power that can sustain us through a lifetime of activities.”
Running with the greater purpose of supporting RallyCap Sports, and their mission to create opportunities for people of all abilities, will sustain me through the journey of 26.2 miles through all five boroughs of New York City on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
I have set a lofty goal and I need your help to make it happen. Every dollar raised on my website will go directly to RallyCap Sports.
